Independent Director Vacancy
24 October 2024
Do you want to make a positive difference to our sport and gain experience of being an independent non-executive board member?
BWSW consists of a diverse network of unique facilities made up of affiliated members clubs, cable sites, commercial pay and play ski centres and multi-sport activity centres. The majority of clubs are voluntary members clubs, BWSW has a number of full paying members and in addition a large number of pay and play participants. BWSW is a leanly resourced office with just 3 full time employees amongst a staff team of 7 and as such it is heavily dependent on volunteer support.
We are a dynamic, destination sport which has a number of quite unique disciplines under our “umbrella” and we provide an exhilarating outdoor, lifestyle sport which connects well with those who wish to spend time outdoors and in nature.
We are particularly committed to our role in tackling inequalities. BWSW was one of the first organisations to receive AKD and Sport England’s approval for our Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) and we have recently signed the Brighton Declaration on Women and Sport. We are passionate about introducing people to our sport, particularly those that have traditionally felt excluded from both sport and society. Over the last two years, we have focused on working in partnership with organisations which help us deliver sporting opportunities for women, girls, ethnically diverse and disabled people, especially children and young people with learning disabilities. We are proud that despite our size, we have supported hundreds of people into our sport and given them opportunities that they may never have received.
Recognised by the UK government as a national governing body, the organisation is in receipt of Exchequer and Lottery funding via Sport England and other funding streams which support its work in managing all aspects of the sport. As a Sport England funded partner, we have a very commendable track record of delivery for the public investment provided.
We are now in the process of recruiting additional Board Members, at least one of whom needs to be categorised as independent. Independent for these purposes can include someone participating in the sport, so long as they can objectively be considered independent. We’d like to hear from anyone who feels they can make a positive contribution. Further information follows on the link below
