MasterCraft Boats UK Wakeboard Boat Nationals held at Church Wilne Watersports at Draycott, Derbyshire . . .
Masters2 was the only category with more than six competitors, with qualifying for the other categories determining the running order for the final only.
Of the little shredders in the Groms category, brother and sister Jamie and Zoe Wilson were both competing in the Nationals for the first time and did not have enough in their bags of tricks to beat Jayden Jones. Joseph Humphries took the Boys win from Nathan Darby and the third member of the Wilson clan, Alex.
In the Junior Men category Luca Kidd produced an awesome final run, beating Mitch Wise and Luke Pearson, whilst in Junior Women Melissa Lock stomped it with Emily Reid taking second and Jemima Cutts third.
Having moved up to Masters, Jonty Green flew through his final, with Ed Williams and Rich Phillips separated by less than three points in second and third spots. In Masters Women, Sarah Kingdom had injured her knee in qualifying preventing her from competing in the final, and Emma Pickard retained her title with Emma Phillips second and Natalie Wilkinson third.
In Masters 2 Men, Brett Hodgkins took gold with Tony ‘Troy’ Miller runner up and Ronnie Hart third. In the Intermediates James Cook took first with Matthew McCreadie second and Tom Hukin third.
All the Open Women completed stand up passes in their final and with Meg Barker not competing this year Katie Batchelor gave reigning champion Charlotte Bryant a close run, with Charlotte edging it by less than three points. Charlotte Millward filled the third podium spot.
The Open Men proved even closer – three points separated the top four! In qualifying Dan Nott had fallen on his first trick and he said that pretty much everything had gone wrong - but he made amends for that in the final with a run that set the early standard which the others weren’t quite able to beat. Jorge Gill took second slot, just ahead of Sam Carne, with Edd Blundell just missing out on the podium.
