Moomba Masters This Weekend
6 March 2024
Reigning World Champion Freddie Winter is among four British waterskiers and one wakeboarder in Australia for the traditional competitive season opener, the Moomba Masters.
The event takes place on the notoriously difficult waters of the Yarra River in the heart of the city of Melbourne this weekend.
Freddie will be joined in the men’s slalom by the British National Champion, Arron Davies.
Jack Critchley is on the start list in the men’s jump and the Sunday Night Jump.
Sanchia Outram will compete in women’s slalom, tricks, jump and overall.

Moomba is the only one of the big waterski competitions that Freddie Winter has never won.
In 2023 he was runner up for the second consecutive year.

“It hasn’t been the easiest start to the year with my body not cooperating in the way I’d like after a needed physical and mental rest,” Freddie said.
“However, the lighter training I’ve managed has been positive and I’m in good enough shape now. We can expect probably the toughest conditions of the year down there, as usual, but I’m excited to get back on it for 2024 and, hopefully, get hold of the last big title that’s evaded me so far.”

"It's gonna be one hell of an experience,” he told the TWBC Podcast. “There’s a few tournaments you grow up watching: US Masters, World Championships and the Moomba Masters. It looks like one of the most fun tournaments of the year so I’m really looking forward to it.”
He added: “I have zero expectations going in and I’m just hoping that I put on a good show.”
As well as the waterski event, there is an invitation wakeboard competition, run under the auspices of the World Wake Association (WWA). Great Britain's Luca Kidd is on the start list for that.
