What a Weekend for GB!

23 September 2024

Four medals, including a gold, at the Cable Wakeboard Worlds, a silver at the Cableski Age Categories Europeans and not one, but two pending Overall World Waterski Records from Joel Poland on successive days!

Cable Wakeboard

At the IWWF World Cable Wakeboard & Wakeskate Championships at LeKable in Paris, Dale Crossley won gold in the +40 Veteran Men category.

It's the first time he's won the National, European and World titles in the same year.

At the same event, Stephanie Williams-Caller won silver and Lex Balladon bronze in +30 Masters Women.

And Nick Davies won bronze in +30 Masters Men.

There were many other strong performances from the large GB team at the Championships and a few podium near misses.

Cableski

Steven Hamblin was GB’s only competitor at the 2024 IWWF European Age Categories Cableski Championships, held at Wake Zone Stawiki in Poland.

He jumped 27.4 metres in the final to win silver in the Senior 2 Men category.

Waterski

Last, but by no means least, Joel Poland set two more pending Overall World Waterski Records at the weekend.

He had already broken his own record earlier this month at the Fluid Fall Record tournament in Florida. He followed that up by breaking it again – twice – on his way to winning the penultimate stop of the World Waterskiers Overall Tour, the Travers Cup, also in Florida.

He did it on Saturday in round one and then again on Sunday in the finals.

Joel is keeping the officials, whose job it is to ratify the records, very busy. If approved, these latest three records notched up in September will be the 6th, 7th and 8th of his career to date. (His 5th, which has been officially approved, came in April this year).

Joel’s 8th pending record was achieved with scores of 2@10.25m in slalom, 12,030 points in tricks and a 69.6 metre jump. The scores were – perhaps not surprisingly - enough for him to win each of the individual events at the Travers Cup as well as the Overall title.

Joel is unbeaten on the 2024 WWS Overall Tour with the final event to come on 18-19 October.
